The Interpretation Centre for Architecture and Heritage, the Lieutenancy Honfleur, offers a permanent exhibition in three rooms and the terraces of the building.
The scenography of the exhibition spaces is designed to offer an immersive and active visit that is aimed at everyone, through: audio stories, virtual reconstructions, models, manipulation games, videos... The first room gives a historical approach to the city, its major stages from its origin to the present day from a projection on a model. The military period was developed there. In the second room, the visitor discovers the different facets that have forged the maritime identity of the city: the great explorations, fishing, maritime trade, shipyards, the industrialization of the port, the inspiration and artistic production and the tourist turn of the cityThe third room highlights the built heritage: the materials and construction techniques are explained and illustrated by examples from Honfleur.
The tour continues on the outdoor terraces of the Lieutenancy, which allow you to read the landscape and observe the city, its urban planning, its port facilities with the help of models and its evolution over time thanks to virtual reconstructions offered by binoculars.
The Lieutenancy Honfleur is also an artists' residence. A creative centre to promote contemporary art and its artists. The mission of the residency is to give an artistic resonance to maritime heritage, promote artistic exchanges, raise awareness and encourage artistic practices. Artists (visual artists, writers, photographers, musicians, etc.) will be welcomed for part of the year. The objective is to set up artistic and cultural events by multiplying the opportunities for communication and exchange between the everyday and the artistic.
