The Yacouba Trio is a jazz ensemble led by double bassist and composer David Jacob, joined by Nicolas Noël on piano and Hakim Molina on drums. Their musical world blends the aesthetics of 1960s jazz with ethnic and contemporary influences, creating a sound that is elegant, accessible and deeply rooted in emotion.
David “Yacouba” Jacob
A well-known figure on the French music scene, he is notably famous as the bassist of the legendary rock band Trust, with whom he has been performing since 1996, carrying on their powerful and energetic stage presence.
At the same time, he has never stopped exploring other horizons — world music, blues and jazz — alongside artists such as Geoffrey Oryema, Ilène Barnes and Ladell McLin.
Their music celebrates the swing born from the sometimes tragic encounter between European, African and Caribbean cultures: a true creolization of sounds, rhythms and influences. Inspired by travel, roots and cultural diversity, the trio succeeds in making jazz accessible without sacrificing artistic excellence or the depth of improvisation.
